Module Evaluation

1.  What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them?

During this module I have developed my illustrator skills further, I have found many different shortcuts that I can now use and different effects using the programme. I have also got a lot better at doing multiple different briefs at the same time, I have just learnt that I need to prioritise. Time management is something I still need to work on although it has been improved throughout this module due to the amount of different module hand ins and briefs due at the same time.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process?

I have considered many different methods of production for this brief although due to lack of time I didn’t manage to get round to doing them, this is something that I would do differently next time. Although I think I have improved on my crafting skills, as the binding for my publications throughout OUGD505 have taken a lot of patience and fiddly folding. I have also learned through this module to focus on my design work and putting blogging second rather than worrying about what I need to blog and letting my designs hinder. This has informed my design greatly as I have been able to focus more n my design work and I really think it has improved the way that I work and the work itself.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these?

I have found more strength in my work during this module than I did in OUGD503, my ability to juggle multiple briefs to a better standard had improved for example and this is something that I want to improve even more. One of my strengths I have identified in my work are my illustrations, I have developed these this year through a few different modules, and is something I want to do more of, and maybe work it into screen printing which is another interest I have and want to do more of in future briefs. I have found that through this module I have informed myself on the subject matter more rather than just design work related to it, which helps my design, this is something I am going to capitalise on in the future.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future?

The weaknesses I have in my work are definitely time management; although it has improved a lot it is still something that I need to work on. In the future I will make more lists of things that I need to do and make sure I actually get them done in the time I have set myself. I think that a weakness I have is that I don’t have a massive amount of confidence in my work, I think that this is something that I have started to get back in this module as I have been enjoying what I am doing, but in the future I need to have more confidence in my design and that it is appropriate for the target audience.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these?

If I were to do this brief again I would have considered preparing screen so that I could screen print my posters, this also means that I could have printed on a larger scale. Next time I will consider what I’m doing and organise my time better so that I can get everything I want to get done, done.

I produced two different animal packs for this brief, this is because I didn’t aim very high, I think if I would have planned to get all of the packs done, I could have got them done, especially because I really enjoyed doing them.

Because I have had four module hand ins in he space of five weeks so I spent a lot of time on the first hand in then had less time for the rest of them. Juggling lots of different briefs is something I have got better at, but I need to prioritise the most important briefs from the rest, if I do this next time I would be able to get more from the design briefs and spend less time on the briefs.

Next time I will experiment with different production methods, so that I can see what would look best for my projects.

Although I have been focussing less on blogging and more on my design work, this is something that I think has helped my design, although I think that blogging the sessions as they happen is really important, as a few of the sessions I forgot to blog and had to back blog, which meant that I may have missed a few things. This is something I will be doing differently next year, as well as blogging the research as I am doing it.

The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
